When an employer in Jyväskylä calls the city’s Business and Employer Services, it’s often Business Specialist Tommi Tervakangas who answers. At the core of Tervakangas’s work is being a partner to employers and entrepreneurs — someone who listens, clarifies, and helps remove obstacles to the company’s growth.
In addition to phone services, Tervakangas visits companies in person to assess their needs. During these company visits, he discusses with employers, maps out their situation, and shares information about services related to recruitment, training, and recruitment subsidies.
— Companies can always invite us to visit. By calling the employer services number or submitting a contact request through the Business Services website, you can easily get in touch with our business specialists. It’s easiest for us to gather the right information for a company when we’ve reviewed the overall situation together, Tervakangas says.
Among the services offered to employers, Tervakangas highlights the candidate search. When a company needs a new employee, Employer Services can quickly look for and provide 5–10 suitable candidates. This gives employers a fast and effortless way to review potential hires.
The best moments in my work are when an employer calls after a candidate search and tells me they’ve hired a great employee through our help, Tervakangas says.
Over €10,000 in support available for hiring through the new recruitment subsidy
This year, employers can apply for two different recruitment subsidies. The Recruitment Subsidy for Employers allows companies to hire an unemployed person, someone in training, or someone at risk of unemployment — and receive up to €13,000 in financial support from the city. The municipality of Muurame also offers a similar subsidy. Another option is the Youth Recruitment Subsidy, which provides up to €9,000 over six months when hiring a young person under the age of 30.
Tervakangas encourages employers to explore these new subsidies.
— If you’re planning to bring more hands into your business, I recommend looking into the recruitment subsidies. The criteria for employers, companies, and employees — along with detailed application instructions — can be found on the Business Services website, he says.
The Recruitment Subsidy for Employers is intended for employers in Jyväskylä who have a workplace located in the city. The employment contract must last at least three months, and the salary must follow the applicable collective agreement. The subsidy is also suitable for part-time and variable-hours contracts. The hired employee must have their home municipality in Jyväskylä or Muurame and belong to one of the target groups, such as people under 30, immigrants, international talent, or those who have been unemployed for a longer period. Companies can alternatively apply for the Youth Recruitment Subsidy when hiring a Jyväskylä- or Muurame-based young person under 30 for a six-month job.
More information about the subsidies is available on the City of Jyväskylä’s Business Services website or by calling the Employer Services line at 014 569 1332 on weekdays from 9:00 to 16:15.
