Economic Development Centre of Central Finland is a part of the government’s regional administration and provide advisory and financing services to support business growth, internationalization, and innovation. The Economic Development Centres support development and investment projects of small and medium-sized enterprises through various funding sources. Funding is granted on a discretionary basis, and different funding forms have different eligibility requirements. Experts at the Economic Development Centre can provide further information on funding guidelines, a project’s eligibility for funding, and the application process.
Finnvera: Finnvera is a state-owned special financier and the official export credit agency of Finland, providing financing for the start-up, growth and internationalisation of businesses, as well as for protection against export risks. Finnvera strengthens the operational preconditions and competitiveness of Finnish companies by offering loans, guarantees, private equity investments and export credit guarantees. The company’s operations are required to be self-sustainable. Business Jyväskylä advises companies operating in Jyväskylä and the Central Finland Enterprise Agency advises new companies on how to apply for Finnvera funding.
Business Finland: Business Finland provides funding for research, product development and a wide range of business development needs, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Large companies and research organisations can receive funding for joint projects with SMEs.
European programmes: European programmes and networks provide funding for companies and research organisations. FIBAN: Finnish Business Angels Network (FiBAN) is a national-level organisation of private investors that promotes angel investments in startups and growth companies. FiBAN organises numerous events in the field and its network has 650 members. FiBAN is a member of the European Business Angels Network (EBAN).
Start-up grant
A start-up grant for a start-up entrepreneur helps to survive financially during the start-up phase of a company. A good business plan is a prerequisite for receiving the grant. A start-up entrepreneur can receive a start-up grant for the first 6–12 months of business operations. The start-up grant is intended to help provide the entrepreneur with a living and it is a personal, taxable income.
