The City of Jyväskylä encourages employers to hire employees — new recruitment subsidy of up to 13,000€

The City of Jyväskylä supports employers in hiring employees with a new type of recruitment subsidy. The amount of recruitment subsidy is predictable for employers, and the application process has been made as simple as possible. Subsidy can be applied for in 2026 for employment relationships that begin with the hiring of an unemployed job seeker.

Starting next year, the city of Jyväskylä will support employers with larger and more extensive financial recruitment subsidies. Previously, subsidies were available for hiring the first employee. Now, financial recruitment subsidy will be extended to all employers. Recruitment subsidy is available for hiring unemployed job seekers who are either young people under the age of 30, immigrants, long-term job seekers, or international professionals in their field. The amount of recruitment subsidy is always based on the job seeker's situation. The purpose of recruitment subsidy is to lower the threshold for employers to hire employees and create permanent employment relationships.

The City of Jyväskylä's employer services can help employers find job seekers who meet their skill requirements and are eligible for recruitment subsidy. Job seekers can also mention the possibility of recruitment subsidy for employers in their job applications. Both private and third sector employers are eligible for recruitment subsidy from the City of Jyväskylä.

—  We encourage employers to take action now and anticipate future skills needs. Employers can receive recruitment subsidy without much effort and know the amount and duration of the subsidy when planning salaries. There are currently many skilled workers unemployed and looking for work in Jyväskylä, says Hanna Lähteelä, Director of Employment Services for the City of Jyväskylä.

Wage subsidy remain a form of support for employers

Wage subsidies can still be applied for as normal. However, wage subsidies and recruitment subsidies cannot be obtained for hiring the same job seeker. The new recruitment subsidy offered by the City of Jyväskylä can also be obtained for short-term fixed-term employment relationships, provided that the employment contract is for at least three months.

In addition, when applying for recruitment subsidy, a cash bonus is available if the job seeker is employed by the company for a longer period. The combined amount of recruitment support and the bonus can be up to 13,000€, depending on the job seeker and the duration of the employment relationship. For job seekers, recruitment support makes employment more profitable than wage subsidy, as working for an employer fulfills the employment condition, unlike employment with wage subsidy.

The application criteria and instructions will be published on the Business Development Services website in early 2026

Recruitment subsidy can be applied for from the beginning of 2026.

Subsidy can also be granted retroactively within one month of the start of employment if the employment relationship began in 2026 and the job seeker meets the other criteria for granting subsidy. The application criteria and instructions will be published on the City of Jyväskylä's Business Development Services website in early 2026. Employers based in Jyväskylä can apply for recruitment subsidy. The home municipality of the unemployed job seeker hired with recruitment subsidy must be Jyväskylä.
